Autism Assessments in Mansfield and Arlington
Explore your questions. Understand your needs. Plan your next steps.
You may be seeking answers about your child’s development or wondering whether autism could help explain your own experiences. Starting that conversation can bring questions about the evaluation, what a diagnosis might mean, and what happens afterward.
Mansfield Counseling offers autism assessments for children, teens, and adults, with an emphasis on understanding the individual and providing practical recommendations.

What questions can an assessment explore?
People seek autism assessments for different reasons. You may want to better understand:
- Differences in social interaction or communication.
- Sensory experiences that affect everyday activities.
- A strong need for predictability or difficulty with changes.
- Repetitive behaviors or deeply focused interests.
- Patterns that have been present since childhood.
- The supports that could make daily life more manageable.
An evaluation considers these experiences together with developmental history and current functioning. Similar concerns can have different explanations, and autism may occur alongside other conditions.
Autism assessments for adults
Questions about autism can arise well into adulthood. You may be looking back at experiences in school, relationships, or employment and wondering whether they fit a broader pattern.
An adult assessment explores both present experiences and early development. It can help clarify strengths, challenges, and support needs. When available and appropriate, information from family members or earlier records can add context.
What happens during an assessment?
Discuss your concerns and history.
We begin with the questions that brought you here and relevant developmental information.
Build a fuller understanding.
Your clinician chooses appropriate assessment methods, which may include interviews, standardized measures, behavioral observations, and records review.
Connect findings with next steps.
A written report and feedback appointment explain the conclusions and recommendations.
Preparing for your appointment
Before your first appointment, it may help to write down:
- The questions you most want answered.
- Examples of experiences that affect daily life.
- Previous evaluations or relevant school records.
- Any referral instructions or documentation requirements.
You do not need to organize your entire history before contacting us. Our office can explain what information to bring.
What will the assessment tell me?
The report explains whether the findings support an autism diagnosis and describes relevant strengths, challenges, and recommendations.
You will have an opportunity to ask questions during feedback. Bring the concerns that matter most to you—whether they involve understanding yourself, supporting your child, considering services, or discussing needs at school or work.
Fees and insurance
Private-pay testing is $200 per billable hour, including assessment and related work such as scoring and report preparation. The total depends on the evaluation’s scope.
We participate with Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, and Cigna for testing. Benefits and out-of-pocket costs vary by plan.
Common questions
Can I ask about autism if I have another diagnosis?
Yes. Tell your clinician about previous diagnoses and evaluations so they can consider that history when planning the assessment.
Can you provide documentation for a school, employer, or other organization?
Tell us the purpose of your evaluation before scheduling and share any documentation requirements. This helps us discuss whether our services fit your request.
Can appointments be virtual?
The appointment format depends on the assessment activities needed. Our office can explain which portions may require an in-person visit.
