Child and Teen Counseling in Mansfield and Arlington
Help your child feel understood and build skills for everyday life.
It can be difficult to know how to help when your child is worried, withdrawn, easily overwhelmed, or frequently upset. You may notice changes at home or hear about concerns at school without knowing what is behind them.
Mansfield Counseling works with children ages seven and up and adolescents, helping young people explore their experiences and develop practical ways to manage challenges.

What can counseling help address?
Families contact us for support with concerns such as:
- Anxiety, worry, and school-related stress.
- Sadness, irritability, or difficulty managing emotions.
- Behavioral challenges and recurring conflict.
- Friendships, peer pressure, and self-esteem.
- Grief, family changes, and other transitions.
- Coping with experiences that feel overwhelming.
Counseling provides an opportunity to understand what is happening and consider support that fits your child’s age and needs.
What might your child work on?
Goals may include recognizing emotions earlier, asking for help, handling frustration, communicating needs, or responding differently during difficult moments.
For a younger child, that might mean practicing a coping strategy before frustration turns into an outburst. For a teenager, it might involve setting boundaries with friends or talking through pressures they find hard to discuss elsewhere.
Skills practiced between appointments can be an important part of treatment.
How are parents and caregivers involved?
You bring valuable knowledge about your child’s history, strengths, and daily life. Caregiver involvement can help connect work in counseling with what happens at home and school.
Ask your counselor how participation will work, how progress will be discussed, and how privacy and safety concerns are handled. The balance of individual and caregiver involvement depends on the child and the treatment plan.
Getting started
The first appointment is a chance to discuss your concerns, relevant history, and what you hope will improve. You can also explain what you have already tried and what has helped.
Together, you and your counselor can identify goals and discuss the next steps.

Common questions
What if my child is nervous about counseling?
Let us know before the appointment. You can explain counseling as a place to talk, ask questions, and practice ways to handle difficult situations.
Can my teenager have virtual appointments?
Virtual appointments are available. Ask whether that format is appropriate for your teenager’s needs and circumstances.
Do we need psychological testing first?
Testing is a separate service and is not automatically required before counseling. Your clinician can discuss whether an assessment would help answer particular questions.
